🚨 The 2026 WHO Global Hepatitis Report is out — and the numbers demand our attention.

Viral hepatitis is now killing more people than HIV every year — yet most people living with it don't even know they are infected.
Nigeria is among just 10 countries responsible for 69% of global Hepatitis B deaths. Africa accounts for 68% of all new HBV infections, yet birth-dose vaccine coverage on the continent sits at a devastating 17%.

The tools to end this exist. The 12-week cure for Hepatitis C has been available since 2015. Treatment for Hepatitis B costs less than $50 per person per year. The barrier is not medicine — it is action.
At CFID Taraba, we refuse to stay silent. We continue to advocate for accessible testing, treatment, and vaccination for every person in Taraba State and beyond.

👉 Get tested. Get treated. Get vaccinated.

WORLD HEALTH DAY 2026 MESSAGE
By Prince Danjuma K. Adda
Former President, World Hepatitis Alliance
CEO, CFID Taraba

Today, as we commemorate World Health Day, we reflect on the vision of the World Health Organization—a world where every individual, regardless of status or location, has access to quality healthcare.

The 2026 theme, “Together for Health. Stand with Science,” is both timely and urgent. It calls on us to embrace scientific innovation, uphold evidence-based policies, and strengthen global and local partnerships to improve health outcomes.

At CFID Taraba, we recognize that science remains our strongest ally in tackling public health challenges. From infectious diseases like Hepatitis B and C to emerging health threats, our response must be guided by data, research, and proven interventions.

In line with the UHC 2030 goals, we must:

* Ensure equitable access to essential health services
* Protect individuals and families from financial hardship due to healthcare costs
* Strengthen primary healthcare systems
* Promote inclusive policies that leave no one behind

A critical area of focus remains viral hepatitis. The *Consolidated Guidance on Hepatitis B and C Prevention, Testing, Treatment, Service Delivery and Monitoring* provides a comprehensive framework for countries and organizations to adopt a public health approach. This implementation handbook emphasizes:

* Scaling up screening and early diagnosis
* Expanding access to affordable and effective treatment
* Integrating hepatitis services into primary healthcare
* Strengthening monitoring systems for better outcomes

We must move from commitment to action.

Standing with science means investing in innovation, empowering healthcare workers, and ensuring that lifesaving interventions reach even the most underserved communities.

As a global health advocate and former President of the World Hepatitis Alliance, I have witnessed the power of collective action. When we unite across sectors and borders, we can eliminate diseases, strengthen systems, and save lives.

Today, I call on governments, partners, and communities to recommit to building a healthier, more equitable world. Together, let us stand with science. Together, let us achieve health for all.

Thank you, and happy World Health Day.
