NONSTEROIDAL ANTI-INFLAMMATORY DRUGS (NSAIDs) AND IT CONSEQUENCES ON GASTROINTESTINAL ULCER

Nonsteroidal drugs are chemical compound that are not steroids but works like corticosteroids "without the steroids side effects" as a substances Which prevents the body from producing chemicals that causes INFLAMMATION. Steroids are synthetic drugs similar to cortisone, a naturally occurring hormone.

The commons nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) are as follows;
Ibuprofen
Naproxen
Diclofenac
Celecoxib
Mefenamic acid
Etoricoxib
Indomethacin
NOTE;
Paracetamol (acetaminophen) is also consider as NSAIDs but has a less anti-inflammatory effect on stomach but high anti-inflammatory effect on others peripheral organs such as brain, uterus, ETC...

COMPLICATIONS AND METABOLIC CONSEQUENCES OF NONSTEROIDAL ANTI-INFLAMMATORY DRUGS (NSAIDs) IN STOMACH.

Prostaglandin is a group of lipids which acts like a hormones.Human body synthesize prostaglandin at sites of tissues damage or infection which functions in dealing with the injury or illness.
In stomach, prostaglandin plays a primary roles in covering the mucosa of stomach, protects the mucosa linings from injury (ulceration) by the actions of gastric acid. Lack of prostaglandin results to tissue damage (ULCER) in the stomach. Nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) stops the production of prostaglandin by inhibiting the secretary functions of CYCLOOXYGENASE (COX). Cyclooxygenase (COX-1 and COX-2) is an enzyme that is responsible for biosynthesis of prostaglandin from arachidonic acid.

SAFETY PRECAUTIONS
Nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) plays important regulatory role in other peripheral organs for example; it prevent the production of prostaglandin in uterus which causes uterine cramping (menstrual pain) during menstruation but prostaglandin is also important during labour (giving birth) because it increases the vasodilation in cervix and promote the widening of the cervix for the easley passes of the fetus. Therefore nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) should;
- Not be use overdose during the "over the counter" process.
- Be be use by physician prescriptions.

NOTE:
Paracetamol (acetaminophen) is described as preferably general anti-inflammatory drugs due to it lesser effects on CYCLOOXYGENASE (COX).
