(BREAKING) NLC, TUC suspend strike.

The ongoing strike led by the National Executive Council of the Nigeria Labour Congress and the Trade Union Congress was suspended on Wednesday night, following the intervention of National Security Adviser Nuhu Ribadu.

The decision to suspend the strike came after a meeting that commenced a few minutes past 7 pm and lasted close to an hour. During this time, various affiliates and state chapters reviewed the outcomes of discussions held between the organized labor leaders and Ribadu.

Tommy Etim, the National Deputy Vice-President of the TUC, confirmed the suspension in an interview in Abuja, stating, "The NEC of the NLC and the TUC have suspended the strike.

We did this based on our trust for the National Security Adviser, Nuhu Ribadu, who gave us his words."
Earlier, labor leaders had met with Ribadu and Minister of Labour Simon Lalong at the Office of the NSA. Ribadu had announced the arrest of individuals allegedly responsible for the brutalization of Joe Ajaero, the National President of the organized labor.

The strike, initially sparked by Ajaero's alleged mistreatment and the government's failure to implement agreements made on October 2, 2023, has been temporarily halted as negotiations between the unions and the government continue. | Chestv
