How do you feel when you don't get the reward, recognition or credit for your hard work? Bad?

I feel that way regularly as a medical laboratory professional. I and millions of others like me work tirelessly behind the scenes to ensure accurate diagnoses, yet we receive little to no recognition for the crucial role we play. Maybe we are invisible because our work happens in the lab, away from the public eye.

But while doctors and nurses are at the forefront of patient care, the lab scientists provide the vital data needed to make informed decisions. We analyze blood samples, diagnose infections, monitor diseases, and ensure the accuracy of critical test results that guide treatments and save lives. So the irony here is striking. Because without medical lab scientists, doctors would be left guessing. Yet, in public discourse, media, and even in healthcare celebrations, we remain in the shadows.

Well, as a friend usually says, "there will always be someone who cannot see your worth, but don't let that person be you". So maybe we should stop waiting for people to put a spotlight on us. Maybe it's time we switch on our own lights on and let it shine.
