2027 Presidential Race: Jonathan, Kwankwaso Set to Join NDC

Strong indications suggest that former President Goodluck Jonathan and former Kano State Governor Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso may be quietly aligning under a proposed National Democratic Coalition (NDC).

The Independent Mirror reports that sources linked to the movement say talks are ongoing to form a broad opposition alliance capable of challenging President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

Insiders also point to ongoing consultations, early mobilisation, and growing support for what could emerge as a major opposition bloc.

Earlier this month, the New Nigeria Integrity Movement (NNIM), Middle Belt Zone, called on former President Goodluck Ebele Jonathan to consider returning to national leadership in the 2027 general election, citing the urgent need for experienced and stabilising leadership amid worsening national challenges.

Kwankwaso, who contested in the last election, is also reportedly considering another bid in the 2027 general election, with sources indicating he may run under any political party.

However, efforts to reach both figures for comments were unsuccessful as of the time of filing this report.

Kano Residents Praise Abahuraira Dahiru’s Appointment as TSO Northwest Coordinator

Residents of Kano State have praised the appointment of the state’s indigene, Abahuraira Dahiru, as the Northwest Zonal Coordinator of the Tinubu Support Organisation (TSO).

The Tinubu Support Organisation (TSO) recently unveiled and inaugurated coordinators for the six geo-political zones of Nigeria, with Dahiru emerging as the Northwest Coordinator.

The Director-General of the organisation, Hon. Aminu Sulaiman, while inaugurating the officials, said their appointments are part of TSO’s efforts to promote sports development and showcase Nigeria’s budding talents ahead of the forthcoming National Football Tournament in honour of Nigeria’s President, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu (GCFR).

He charged the newly inaugurated officials to ensure the success of the tournament in line with President Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, while also promoting unity and fostering national pride.

The Director-General emphasized the importance of sports in nation-building and highlighted President Tinubu’s commitment to youth empowerment.

He added that the TSO National Football Tournament will bring together teams from across the 36 states of the federation and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Abuja, beginning with zonal eliminations.

Abahuraira Dahiru, a Kano-born indigene with experience in organizing football competitions, is expected to bring his expertise to ensure the success of the tournament.

It will be recalled that Dahiru previously served as the coordinator of the Gusau/Ahlan Pre-season tournament, where he played a key role in organizing the competition.

Other zonal coordinators inaugurated include Solomon Babanjah (North Central), Alhaji Abubakar Abubakar Dan Fulani (North East), Abahuraira Dahiru (North West), Mr. Mojeed Adegbindin (South West), Paul Ojo Omamomo (South South), and Nnamdi Charles Chukwuemeka (South East).

Meanwhile, April 2026 has been tentatively scheduled for the kickoff of the TSO National Football Tournament across the six geo-political zones.
