DID YOU KNOW CHOKING IS AN EMERGENCY MEDICAL CONDITION
Inability to breathe caused by a blockage in the throat or windpipe.
Choking occurs when an object or food becomes lodged in the throat or windpipe, blocking airflow. If airflow is blocked, choking can be a medical emergency and needs urgent attention.
The main symptom is an inability to breathe or talk. There may be accompanying coughing. In severe cases, the skin may turn blue.
1. If someone is choking, encourage them to cough.
If the blockage is severe, they may be holding their chest or neck and won't be able to speak, breathe or cough, and you will need to help them.
2. Bend them forwards and give up to 5 back blows to try and dislodge the blockage.
Hit them firmly on their back with the heel of your hand between the shoulder blades.
Hitting them on their back creates a strong vibration and pressure in the airway, which is often enough to dislodge the blockage. Dislodging the blockage will allow them to breathe again.
3. If they are still choking, give up to 5 abdominal thrusts: hold around the waist and pull inwards and upwards above their belly button.
Abdominal thrusts squeeze the air out of the lungs and may dislodge the blockage.
4. If they are still choking call 999.
Repeat the steps until they can breathe again or until help arrives.

Did you know Paracetamol can Damage your Kidney?
Scientists at the University of Edinburgh studied the impact of paracetamol on liver cells in human and mouse tissue, and tests showed that in certain settings paracetamol can damage the liver by harming vital structural connections between adjacent cells in the organ.
When these cell wall connections – known as tight junctions – are disrupted, the liver tissue structure is damaged, cells are unable to function properly and they may die.
This type of cell damage is known to occur in liver conditions including hepatitis, cirrhosis, and cancer, but until now it was not linked to paracetamol toxicity.
