In a significant step toward maintaining and enhancing academic opportunities, the School of Continuing Education and Postgraduate Studies (SCEPS), Kano State Polytechnic welcomed a delegation from Joseph Surwan Tarka University, Makurdi (JOSTUM) on Thursday, December 11, 2025.
The visit centered on a resources inspection, in response to Kano State Polytechnic's request to offer its Social and Management Science Postgraduate Diploma (PGD) programmes in affiliation with the university.
In her remarks, Prof. Bibiana D. Igbabul, Chair of JOSTUM's Affiliation Committee and leader of the team, noted that the university had received a letter of intent from the Polytechnic's management expressing interest in affiliating to run PGD programmes. In response, JOSTUM promptly launched a comprehensive process and appointed a five-member team under her leadership to conduct a thorough resource verification at the institution.
Prof. Igbabul thanked the Polytechnic's management for their warm reception and expressed hopes for a successful exercise. She also urged her team to uphold transparency and impartiality throughout the inspection.
Dr. Maryam Kabir, the Director, School of Management Studies, who represented the Rector, Dr. Abubakar Umar Farouk, FCA underscored the institution's commitment to academic excellence and the need to align its social and management PGD programmes with university standards.
She emphasized that, once the collaboration is actualized, postgraduate diploma students will be issued JOSTUM certificates.
Dr. Maryam also extended gratitude to JOSTUM's management for considering the Polytechnic's request, describing it as a major milestone for the current leadership of the Polytechnic. She encouraged the team to feel at home during their evaluation of the facilities and assured them of the management's full commitment and readiness to cooperate.
Earlier in her welcome address, the Director of SCEPS, Dr. Ramatu Adamu Muhammed, expressed delight over the development. She highlighted the importance of affiliating with JOSTUM to run the PGD programmes, noting that it would elevate academic standards through rigorous quality assurance, expand access to postgraduate education in social and management sciences.
Dr. Ramatu also recalled that the institution had already signed a memorandum of understanding with Aliko Dangote University of Science and Technology (ADUSTECH), Wudil, for Science, Technology, and Engineering PGD programmes.

In an effort to showcase the creativity and talent of its students, the Department of Arts and Industrial Design at Kano State Polytechnic, led by the Director of the School of Technology, Dr. Aminu Sabo, and the Head of Department, Mal. Ashiru Abdullahi, presented several 2025 student projects to the Rector, Dr. Abubakar Umar Farouk, FCA. The presentation was aimed at benefiting the entire KSP community.
The projects included customized KSP jotters, table calendars, souvenir bags, and large portrait drawings of the Rector, former Deputy Rector, Registrar, and Director of the School of Technology. Also exhibited were handmade, customized doormats designed for the offices of the Rector and Registrar, and String Art of KSP logo (made from thread and nails).
During the briefing, Mal. Ashiru highlighted that the department recently secured first place in a competition organized by the Kano State Ministry of Science, Technology, and Innovation for tertiary institutions, held in celebration of the 2025 World Science and Technology Week.
He further emphasized the departmentβs commitment to guiding students in producing functional projects relevant to their profession that address immediate challenges within the institution. Notable projects include:
2022: Mural paintings for the School of Technology auditorium, sculptural pieces for the student garden, and ceramic works by the AID section.
2023: Enhancements to the SOT main library, IVEI, oil-on-canvas paintings for the Rectorate conference room, and souvenir items for the department.
2024: Projects focused on the Polytechnic Staff School, the SOT conference room, signage for AID, and additional souvenir items.
In response, the Rector expressed his appreciation for the creativity and professionalism displayed by the students and the department. He stressed the importance of these projects in enriching the Polytechnicβs environment and fostering a culture of practical innovation.
The Rector encouraged the department to continue supporting students in developing solutions that address real community needs, reaffirming his commitment to backing initiatives that contribute positively to the development of the institution, Kano State, and the nation at large.
