(1) Lungs are the major organ of the respiratory system. An average human breathes about 13pints of air every time.

(2) The right lung is bigger than the left lung.

(3) Lungs are the only organ in the human body that can float on water because it composed of tube-like structure called air sacs.

(4) Humans have two lungs and are situated within the thoracic cavity of the chest. Lungs are divided into a smaller structure called Bronchi which are divided into bronchioles.

(5) The lungs capacity of a healthy man is estimated to be 6000ml. The total lungs capacity refers to the total volume of air filled in the lungs.

(6) Inhaling through the nose and exhaling through the mouth disturbs the level of oxygen and carbon (iv) oxide balance in the lungs.

(8) In breathing, inhalation is much more stronger than exhalation. As we breathe in, the air gets filtered by the nasal chambers which is followed by the nose.

(9) Yawning helps us to breathe more oxygen into our lungs. It's an involuntary process accompanied by long inhalation. This process occur when the brain cells send a message as it's sense the shortage of oxygen and the message tricks our sensory system to take a long deep breathe.

(10) The respiratory quotient is define as the ratio of volume of oxygen consumed and volume of carbon (iv) oxide eliminated during cellular respiration. The normal respiratory quotient (RQ) is 0.7 to 1.0
