OBA FRONTIERS MOURNS THE PASSING OF REV. DR. UMA UKPAI, A COLOSSUS OF FAITH
Uyo, Akwa Ibom State, Nigeria –
The OBA Frontiers, a socio-political advocacy and mobilization group in support of the ideals and leadership of Senator Bassey Albert Akpan (OBA), today joined the Christian community worldwide in mourning the transition of the revered international evangelist, Reverend Dr. Uma Ukpai.
Rev. Dr. Ukpai, the founder and president of the Uma Ukpai Evangelistic Association (UUEA), passed away on October 6, 2025. He was 80 years old.
In a statement signed by the leadership of the OBA Frontiers, the organization described the late evangelist as a spiritual giant whose ministry transcended denominational boundaries and brought unprecedented impact to countless lives, particularly in the South-South region of Nigeria.
“We received the news of the glorious passage of Rev. Dr. Uma Ukpai with a deep sense of loss, yet with profound gratitude for a life monumentally spent in service to God and humanity,” the statement read. “The late Reverend was more than just a preacher; he was a spiritual father, a nation-builder, and a beacon of hope whose crusades and philanthropic outreaches defined a generation."
The OBA Frontiers, notes that Rev. Ukpai's commitment to faith, excellence, and community welfare mirrored the aspirational values the group and its Patron, Senator Bassey Albert, champion.
“His passing leaves a significant void in the spiritual leadership landscape of our nation. We encourage his family, the members of his powerful ministry, and the entire Akwa Ibom and Abia communities to take solace in the enduring and transformative legacy he leaves behind—a legacy built on salvation, healing, and divine possibility."
The OBA Frontiers prays that the Almighty God grants the soul of the departed a peaceful rest in His eternal glory and provides the fortitude for all those he left behind to bear this irreplaceable loss.

DID YOU KNOW?
Bassey Albert Akpan served two terms in the Nigerian Senate, from 2015 to 2023, representing the Akwa Ibom North-East Senatorial District. During his time as a federal legislator, he was known for his work in the petroleum and gas sectors.
* Chairman of Key Committees: He held significant leadership positions, serving as the Chairman of the Senate Committee on Gas Resources during the 8th Senate (2015-2019) and later as the Chairman of the Senate Committee on Upstream Petroleum Resources in the 9th Senate (2019-2023).
His committee work was deeply involved with major reforms in Nigeria's oil and gas sector. He was instrumental in the discussions and eventual passage of the Petroleum Industry Act (PIA) in 2021.
As a committee chairman, he demonstrated a commitment to financial oversight. For example, his committee once rejected a request for a N200 million appropriation for the review of the Nigeria Gas Master Plan, deeming it unnecessary.
He was the sponsor of the "Gas Flaring Penalty and Prohibition Bill," which aimed to end the practice of gas flaring in Nigeria, a significant environmental and economic issue.
He played a key role in the review of the Deep Offshore and Inland Basin Production Sharing Contract, a move that reportedly increased the federal government's revenue from oil by hundreds of millions of dollars.
Beyond legislative debates, he was also known for facilitating numerous constituency projects, including the construction of health centers, skill acquisition centers, and educational support programs.
Motions and Bills
He moved a motion on the floor of the Senate to address the deplorable state of the Ikot-Ekpene – Itu – Calabar highway.
