“Who sent this small man to come and be acting like deputy husband?” 😅
The other day, I had to work very late, and my husband was away. By the time I got home that night, tired, drained, and already preparing my mind for “what have these children scattered today?”, guess who was standing at the gate waiting to receive me and carry my bags? My son. 🥹
I was genuinely surprised. I even asked him if he had somehow been monitoring me spiritually, because if this boy had a phone, I’m very sure my missed calls would have been waiting for me since. (Mental note to self: apparently, it may be time to consider getting him a phone before he starts applying for a tracking license. 😂)
Then he proudly started listing all the chores he had done after school: “I did this… I arranged that… I kept this there…”
And honestly? My heart melted a little.
For the first time in a while, I realized I didn’t need to panic so much while being away. There was this quiet confidence that he was okay… responsible… dependable. Such a soft but powerful feeling.
I think that’s one of the beautiful parts of raising a boy child. Not just raising someone’s future husband, father, or provider, but nurturing a whole human being — kind, sane, responsible, emotionally aware, trustworthy, confident, valuable, and grounded.
Because let’s be honest, the world already has enough grown men who can lift generators but cannot lift accountability. 😭
The Bible says in Book of Proverbs: “Train up a child in the way he should go, and when he is old, he will not depart from it.”
And truly, parenting is one of the greatest stewardship assignments God can ever give anyone. We are literally raising human beings who will someday become somebody’s peace… or prayer point. No pressure. 😅
It takes intentionality. It takes grace. It takes consistency. It takes prayer. And sometimes, it takes pretending not to notice the milk spilled on the floor because you want to encourage the effort more than punish the mistake. 😂
I’m still learning. Still growing. Still figuring out how to be a better mother, role model, and safe place for my children and family. Happy International Boy Child Day.
