The Man Who Hated Mondays
There was a man named Daniel who absolutely disliked Mondays.

Every Sunday night, his joy slowly faded. As the clock ticked toward midnight, his mind would whisper, “Tomorrow is Monday.” And just like that, his chest would feel heavy. He worked in a busy office in Lagos, surrounded by deadlines, ringing phones, and supervisors who always wanted “urgent” reports.

On Mondays, Daniel’s alarm would ring at 5:00 a.m. It always felt louder on that day. He would snooze it once… twice… sometimes five times. The thought of traffic, unfinished tasks, and a long week ahead made his body feel tired before he even stood up.

He believed what many people believe:
Monday is the hardest day of the week.
One particular Monday morning, he almost called in sick. He sat at the edge of his bed, staring at the wall. His mind was full of complaints.

“Why does Monday come so fast?”
“Why can’t the weekend be longer?”
“Why is life just work and stress?”
But something different happened that day.

As he reluctantly stepped outside, he saw an elderly street cleaner already sweeping the road. The man was smiling actually smiling as he worked.

Daniel was confused.
“How can someone smile on a Monday?” he wondered.🤷🤷🤷🤷

Out of curiosity, Daniel greeted him. The cleaner responded warmly and said something simple but powerful:
“Young man, Monday is not my enemy. Monday is my opportunity.”
Daniel paused.

The cleaner explained that every Monday meant he was alive. It meant he still had strength in his body. It meant he had another chance to earn, to improve, to correct mistakes from last week, and to move closer to his dreams.

That statement followed Daniel the entire day.
Instead of seeing Monday as stress, he started seeing it as a reset button.

That week, he tried something new. Instead of complaining, he prepared for Monday on Sunday evening — laid out his clothes, planned his tasks, went to bed early. On Monday morning, he woke up with less resistance.

Slowly, his mindset changed.
Monday didn’t become easier because work reduced.

Monday became easier because his thinking changed.
He realized something important:
Monday is not heavy by itself.

It only carries the weight we attach to it.
From that day on, Daniel stopped saying, “I hate Mondays.”

Instead, he began saying, “Let me use this Monday well.”
And surprisingly, his weeks became lighter.

The one thing many people think about Monday is that it brings stress.
But sometimes, Monday is simply bringing opportunity disguised as responsibility.
