In August 2023, two teenagers from Las Vegas—Jesus Ayala (17 at the time, now 20) and Jzamir Keys (16 at the time, now 18)—went on a crime spree that ended in tragedy.
• Jesus Ayala (the driver): Accused of steering a stolen Hyundai Elantra to deliberately strike victims, including 64-year-old retired California police chief Andreas “Andy” Probst, who was riding his bicycle. Ayala was sentenced to 20 years to life in prison after pleading guilty to second-degree murder.
• Jzamir Keys (the passenger): Filmed the incident on his phone (video later went viral), showing the pair laughing and targeting bicyclists. Keys was sentenced to 18 years to life.
They also hit a separate 72-year-old cyclist earlier that morning (who survived injuries). The duo faced multiple charges including murder, and both were tried as adults.
Court appearances showed them reportedly smiling, laughing, and showing little remorse, which outraged the victim’s family.
Justice was served in December 2025 with maximum sentences, but the case highlights the dangers of reckless youth crime and the impact on innocent lives.
