LIVE BY DESIGN NOT BY DEFAULT

In a world where it's becoming increasingly difficult to take time away from your activities to think about your life and career, you have to become very intentional about living by design, not by default.

Many of us are living on autopilot, we are just living as the day comes, we don't take time to think about what we want our lives to look like and design our lives to get the best out of it. Yet, we are surprised that we are constantly stressed and busy, but get very little to no result.

We embrace every opportunity that comes our way only to find out that we have too much to do, and that we don't have time for the things that matter in our lives.

If you want to take hold of your life and live intentionally, you'll need to live by design, not by default. You'll have to intentionally take time out of your busy life to see if the direction you're heading is where you want to go.

Essentialism is not about doing less for the sake of it, it’s about doing only the things that fit into what you desire, but you need to design your life to be able to achieve this.

You need to learn to pause to think through every situation and opportunity to decide whether or not it's something that you want to do. You have to think if this is essential and will help me make my highest contribution.

Life in itself is not about existing, it's about:

Following your passion
Deploying your talent
Making your best contribution to the betterment of the world.

But how do you get to this if there's no design for your life? How do you design your life if you don't have clarity?

Action point: Take time today to think about the course of your life and the things you're doing, if they matter. Then make adjustments where needed.

Ask these questions to know what's most important:

What am I truly passionate about?
What am I good at?
What problem do I want to solve?

Answering these questions might take time. So take time to explore your options to discern what’s trivial and what’s vital.

Once you get your answer, devote your entire life to doing what's essential to the realization of what’s most important to you.
