I Am Tainted

I wish I could say

All of my effort means something, that
My current struggles will amount

To strength and resilience—
And my intentions will be understood—
Instead of being viewed as an addicted,
No-good bottom feeder,
That could never come to terms with
Everyday responsibilities and
Daily realities any adult has to face.

She opened her mouth, then she remembered her vow.

A vow to hide, to shelter. And she was about to shatter it at the feet of love.

Smiles were served, tears were shared.

She needed more time to reach those doors, more patience to untangle the chaotic threads of the past.

To cross her soul, cross the souls,

And hope to live.
