An ulcer is an erosion of the mucous membrane Peptic ulcers that may occur in the stomach (gastric ulcer) or the duodenum (duodenal
ulcer).
The specific cause of ulcers is not clear, but some physicians believe
that a number of factors including genetic predisposition, abnormally high secretion of hydrochloric acid by the stomach, stress, excessive use of aspirin or ibuprofen (analgesics), cigarette smoking, and, in some cases, a bacterium called Helicobacter pylori may contribute to their development.
A classic symptom is gastric pain, which is sometimes described as burning, and in some cases, hemorrhage (bleeding) is also a symptom. The pain is typically relieved with food or antacids. A hemorrhage usually requires surgery.
*Ulcer can't 100% heal without a change of diet* 👇
📌 *Managing ulcers through nutrition involves certain considerations. Here are general guidelines:*
1. *Avoid Trigger Foods:* Steer clear of spicy foods, citrus fruits, tomatoes, and caffeinated or alcoholic beverages, as they can irritate the stomach lining.
2. *Fiber-Rich Foods* : Choose high-fiber foods like fruits, vegetables like garden egg, carrot, Ugu, Green etc and whole grains to help regulate digestion and prevent constipation.
3 *Lean Proteins* : Opt for lean protein sources like poultry, fish, and tofu, which are easier on the stomach.
4. *Probiotics* : Incorporate probiotic-rich foods like yogurt or fermented foods like pap, soya bean etc to promote a healthy gut environment.
5. *Small, Frequent Meals* : Instead of large meals, aim for smaller, more frequent meals to reduce stomach acid production.
6. *Hydration* : Drink plenty of water to maintain adequate hydration, but avoid excessive amounts during meals.
7. *Limit Fatty Foods* : High-fat foods can delay stomach emptying, so choose low-fat options to minimize discomfort.
*H.PYLORI (HELIOBACTER PYLORI)*
H. pylori (Heliobacter pylori, pronounced Hel-ee-koh-BAK-ter Pie-LORE-ee) is a type of bacteria that infects your stomach.
It can damage the tissue in your stomach and the first part of your small intestine (the duodenum). This can cause redness and soreness (inflammation).
*CAUSES OF H. POLYRI*
H. pylori bacteria are usually passed from person to person through direct contact with saliva, contaminated food or water.
*The exact way H. pylori bacteria causes gastritis or a peptic ulcer in some people is still unknown.*
