Just by Grace

Ephesians 2:8-9 (NIV): "For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith—and this is not from yourselves, it is the gift of God—not by works, so that no one can boast."

1. The Definition of Grace
Grace Defined: Grace is unmerited favor from God—His goodness, given freely to those who don’t deserve it.

God’s Nature of Grace: God is love (1 John 4:8), and grace flows from this core aspect of His character. His grace means that despite our faults, He reaches out to us in love. Just like a child who makes mistakes but is still loved deeply by their parent. The love and acceptance are not earned but freely given.

2. The Universality of Grace
Romans 3:23-24 - “For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God, and all are justified freely by his grace through the redemption that came by Christ Jesus.”

Every human being needs grace because every one of us has fallen short of God’s standard. But no one is beyond the reach of grace.
We therefore need to recognize the need for grace. No matter where we are in life, what we've done, or how "good" we try to be, we are dependent on God’s grace.

3. Grace Versus Works
Titus 3:5 - “He saved us, not because of righteous things we had done, but because of his mercy.”

Good deeds and religious practices are meaningful, but they don’t earn us God’s love or forgiveness. Grace is a gift, not a wage.

Just like someone trying to buy an expensive item with pocket change—our efforts to earn God’s love are as insufficient, but grace covers this gap entirely. So, let go of trying to "earn" God’s love or prove ourselves and, instead, live as people who are deeply loved by Him.

4. Receiving Grace Through Faith
Ephesians 2:8 - "For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith—and this is not from yourselves."

We receive grace by placing our faith in Jesus Christ, accepting that we can’t make ourselves right with God. Faith is the open hand that receives God’s gift of grace.

Just as a thirsty person reaches out to receive water, we open our hearts to receive God’s grace through trusting in Him. Today, if you haven’t yet placed your faith in Christ, know that God’s grace is extended to you. All you need to do is believe and receive.

5. Living in the Reality of Grace
2 Corinthians 12:9 - "My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness."

Grace empowers us daily. We’re still imperfect, but grace gives us strength, covering our weaknesses and failures. Embrace God’s grace not just for salvation but as an empowering presence in your life. Grace frees you from condemnation and gives you peace to grow, learn, and become more like Christ.

"A Very Present Help"

Text: Psalm 46:1-3 (NIV)
"God is our refuge and strength, an ever-present help in trouble. Therefore we will not fear, though the earth give way and the mountains fall into the heart of the sea, though its waters roar and foam and the mountains quake with their surging."

Brethren when we reflect on the profound truth found in Psalm 46:1—"God is our refuge and strength, an ever-present help in trouble." In our lives, we face many challenges and uncertainties, yet this promise reassures us that we are never alone in the following ways

1. The Nature of God as Our Help
God’s help is not distant or detached. He is described as "ever-present," meaning He is always with us, aware of our struggles and ready to provide support. In moments of fear and anxiety, we can lean into His strength.

2. Facing Life's Storms
In a time of chaos and confusion when faced with situations like earthquakes, roaring waters, and quaking mountains which represent the trials of life we face. Life can feel overwhelming, and our circumstances may shake us to our core.

Just as a child who runs to a parent in times of distress. That instinctual response to seek comfort is a beautiful reminder of our relationship with God. He invites us to approach Him, knowing He is there to embrace and strengthen us.

In all these, our consolation is in the fact that true peace comes from acknowledging our limitations and relying on God. When we surrender our fears to Him, we find strength and stability.

3. God as Our Refuge
In a world filled with turmoil, God is our refuge. A refuge offers safety and shelter. When we turn to Him in times of trouble, we are engulfed in His protection.

Just as i was told about olumo rock that in the olden days when there is war people runs there for safety .Similarly, God invites us to run to Him for protection and comfort.

4. Responding to His Help
Recognizing God as our help requires action on our part. We must choose to seek Him earnestly, whether through prayer, reading His Word, or engaging with our faith community.

Therefore my beloved don’t wait for crises to draw near to God. Build a relationship with Him daily, so when challenges arise, you have a solid foundation to stand on. Just like the one who builds his house on the rock Matthew 7:24-27

5. The Assurance of His Presence
Finally, let us remember that God's presence is not just for our troubles; it is a continual source of joy and strength. In times of celebration and in our everyday lives, He walks with us.

Take a moment to consider how God has been a help in your life. Recall specific instances where you felt His presence, guidance, and comfort.

In conclusion, let us hold on to the promise that God is our refuge and strength, an ever-present help in trouble. No matter what storms we may face, we can rest in the assurance of His unwavering presence.
