I see history repeating itself again and if we are not careful, we will never have this chance again anytime soon.

Now these are the legacies of late governor Aper Aku.

Till now, the tallest building in Makurdi is Sheraton hotel, it was built by former governor Aper Aku in 1980.
The best market in Benue is mordern market which was innitiated and built by governor Aper Aku. He built the market and Sheraton near the river with plans of dreging river Benue so that the market and the hotel will serve a great purpose.
Should I talk about the mighty state secretariat which still stands the taste of modern development today since it was built more than 50 years ago?
What about the stadium he built which uptil now is the only usable stadium in BENUE?
Unfortunately despite his performance, late governor Aper Aku was sentenced to 18 years imprisonment for embezzlement of public funds and corruption. Our Tiv brothers ganged up and fought him just like they are doing to Fr. Hyacinth Iormem Alia now.
Are you aware that after serving a jail term of 3 years he was pardoned and couldn't stay out for long and died? The Tiv people he was trying to help practically k him.
Now imagine after serving your people selflessly, the only way we could appreciate him was by giving him an 18 year jail term which later led to his death when he was released 3 years after.
Surprisingly, apart from that dilapidated building opposite teaching hospital which was former steam fast close to Gyado Villa, this same Aper Aku who was locked for embezzlement has no other house either in BENUE or anywhere else. Now the question is "was he swallowing the money physically or he was masticating it? These were the stories they were selling and many believed them the same way some are believing lies against the innocent priest.
Since 1980 that he almost finished this Sheraton hotel, it has been uncompleted till now.
Now let's briefly analyse a few other projects by this same man we tagged corrupt.
1. Federal university of agriculture Makurdi.
2. Modern Market
3. Taraku Mills.
4. Sheraton hotel.
5. BENUE breweries limited with "MORE" as their selling brand.
6. BENUE hotels

With all this projects and many more, our fathers displayed their writing skills by indicting an innocent man and giving him 18 years jail term for embezzlement of public funds. It took the grace of God for getting him that pardon after he had already served a 3 years jail term despite his health challenges. He never stayed out for long and died.

Now these are the legacies of Late Fr Adasu.

Within his one year in office,
- Adasu established the Benue State University (BSU) which most of you graduated from and refused to have sense.
- He influenced the establishment of a federal Medical centre in Makurdi.
-He facilitated the construction of that central bank of Nigeria (CBN) in makurdi.
- He established Benco Roof Tiles, Abinsi.
- He also re-opened the college of education Oju, which was closed down since the December, 1983 military coup.
- Within his 1 year in office, Adasu established FRUITCON factory in katsina-Ala.

- Adasu's administration also initiated 'BENUE DAY' where all prominent Benue sons and daughters, at home and in the diaspora to discuss development in Benue.

Adasu also embarked on a policy of immortalizing all past governor's of the state as well as states prominent sons and daughters who served as governors in other states.

- He built a magnificent building to house J. S Tarka foundation in makurdi to immortalize the legend.

- The first civilian governor of Benue late chief. Aper Aku had the state stadium named after him.
- Adasu also named the state library after Col. Fidelis Atahiru Makka.(rtd)

The governor also executed several other projects, like
1. Alpha plastic industry Northbank makurdi. 2. Onyegede cassava complex.
3. A yam flour factory Zaki Biam.
4. Fruit Juice factory (FRUITCON) katsina-Ala.

With all these achievements within 1 year our people still ganged up and fought him till after his death. That is the reason why despite all his achievements, there is nowhere he is immortalized. In fact Fr Adasu later died a poor man because he refused to involve in dirty politics to be used against his people.

While these things were happening, there were people like you who told their arms and said I don't do politics.
There were people like them who left what they were supposed to do at national level and were ganging to fight him.
There were people like us who were giving the right orientation but we were tagged as disrespectful people.
My dear brothers and sisters, the same scenario has presented itself again and thank God we have social media and hardworking youths who are not depending on anybody to feed.
Father Hyacinth Alia is just one year in office and despite all the attacks the man is working tirelessly for the future of our children.

I therefore call on all Benue citizens to join us on 10th December by 10 am as we March in solidarity to appreciate our amiable governor Fr hyacinth Alia for the good works he is doing to Benue.
