The Trump administration has imposed partial travel restrictions on Nigeria, along with 14 other African countries.

What This Means for Nigerians:
Affected Visa Categories:
Nigerians are now suspended from entering the US on:

B-1 (Business visits)
B-2 (Tourism)
B-1/B-2 (Combined business/tourism)
F (Academic studies/student visas)
M (Vocational/non-academic studies)
J (Exchange programs) Premium Times
Green card applications (immigrant visas)

Reasons Given by the White House:

1. Security concerns: The US cited that “Radical Islamic terrorist groups such as Boko Haram and the Islamic State operate freely in certain parts of Nigeria, which creates substantial screening and vetting difficulties.”

2. Visa overstay rates: According to the US Department of Homeland Security, Nigeria had a B-1/B-2 visa overstay rate of 5.56 percent and an F, M, and J visa overstay rate of 11.90 percent.
