In 2016, a 70-year-old man named Lawrence Ripple walked into a bank in Kansas City and handed the teller a note claiming he had a gun and demanding money.

The teller gave him nearly $3,000. Instead of fleeing, Lawrence calmly walked to the lobby, sat down, and waited for police. When officers arrived, he identified himself and explained why he did it.
