How to Price Your First Brand Project (Without Undercharging or Scaring Your Potential Clients Off)
✅ 1. Know your three numbers
Before any client conversation:
✍️ Know your floor (the minimum you’ll accept)
✍️ Know your market rate (what designers at your level charge)
✍️ Know your value price (what the project is worth to them and their business)
Always anchor closer to value, not your floor.
✅ 2. Package your offer, don’t itemize it
If you package your offer like you sell pepper in the market, they will price you like you’re selling pepper.
Stop listing items individually like:
“Logo: $150, Brand Guide: $80, Color Palette: $20, Business Card: $30.”
If you do, they will negotiate line by line.
Instead, present a complete brand package with a single investment figure. Sell the outcome, not the deliverables.
✅ 3. Stop pricing based on time alone
Just because you’ve gotten faster and better, and a project now takes you 2 days instead of longer, doesn’t mean you should price based on time. Instead, price based on scope of work and value. What is this brand identity actually worth to the client’s business?
✅ 4. Get at least 50% upfront before you start work
This should be non-negotiable. A deposit filters out unserious clients and signals that your thinking has value.
