You've probably heard the statement that once you're diagnosed with hypertension and start taking antihypertensive medicine π -- you will continue to take it for life.
Well, this statement is not cast in stone, it holds for most hypertensive patients, but certainly not everyone.
Treatment for hypertension is personalized.
Whether you continue treatment for life or not depends on several factors.
One of those factors is
π₯ Cause-
what lead to your hypertension. (My last post on hypertension discussed different causes of hypertension).
If the cause of the hypertension is, for instance, genetics, kidney disease, the person must continue medicine for hypertension as long the kidney problem is still there.
On the other hand, if the cause of your hypertension is insulin resistance as a result of lifestyle.
Lifestyle intervention- meaning lifestyle changes, to a great extent can help bring your blood pressure to normal. This may lead to your healthcare provider deciding to put you off medπ or reducing it to a great extent.
β β β Never stop your blood pressure medications ππ unless your doctor says so.
