🌐 STEP-BY-STEP GUIDE ON NAT CONFIGURATION 🔧💻
NAT (Network Address Translation) allows multiple devices in a private network to share one public IP address when accessing the internet. It is commonly configured on routers and firewalls.
📌 HOW TO CONFIGURE NAT (Basic Cisco Router Example)
1️⃣ Access the Router
Connect to the router using Console, SSH, or Telnet.
2️⃣ Enter Privileged Mode
enable
3️⃣ Enter Global Configuration Mode
configure terminal
4️⃣ Configure the Inside Interface
This is the LAN/private network interface.
interface gigabitethernet0/0
ip address 192.168.1.1 255.255.255.0
ip nat inside
no shutdown
exit
5️⃣ Configure the Outside Interface
This is the internet/public network interface.
interface gigabitethernet0/1
ip address 10.0.0.1 255.255.255.252
ip nat outside
no shutdown
exit
6️⃣ Create an Access List for Internal Devices
access-list 1 permit 192.168.1.0 0.0.0.255
7️⃣ Enable NAT Overload (PAT)
ip nat inside source list 1 interface gigabitethernet0/1 overload
8️⃣ Save the Configuration
write memory
✅ HOW TO VERIFY NAT Use these commands:
show ip nat translations
show ip nat statistics
🎯 BENEFITS OF NAT
✔ Conserves Public IP Addresses
✔ Adds Basic Security
✔ Allows Private Networking
✔ Helps Multiple Users Access the Internet
💡 NAT is one of the core technologies used in networking and enterprise internet connectivity.
