Many employees assume that once tax is deducted from their salary under the PAYE (Pay-As-You-Earn) system, their tax responsibilities are fully settled. This is a common misconception, but an important one to correct.

PAYE is not just a collection mechanism, its a Tax itself. Your employer deducts tax from your salary and remits it to the government on your behalf, but this only covers employment income.
Personal Income Tax, on the other hand, applies to your total income from all sources, not just your salary.

Therefore, if you are a taxable individual, you are expected to declare your income annually, whether tax was deducted at source or not.
