Police Debunk Criminals' Bus Rumour in Ifo, Confirm Passengers Were Road Construction Workers

The Ogun State Police Command has dismissed reports alleging that a bus conveying suspected criminals was intercepted along the Ibogun Road axis in Ifo, describing the claim as false and misleading.

According to the police, security operatives responded swiftly after receiving intelligence on June 3, 2026, regarding a suspected security threat involving a bus reportedly carrying criminals in the area.

However, investigations by police surveillance and anti-robbery teams revealed that the vehicle was transporting 21 labourers employed by a construction company handling the reconstruction and rehabilitation of the Ifo–Ibogun Road.

The workers were reportedly stopped by some youths who suspected them of criminal activities, prompting concern among residents and the circulation of rumours on social media.

Following verification, the police confirmed that the labourers were legitimately engaged in the ongoing federal road project and had no links to any criminal activity.

To ensure their safety, police officers reassured the workers and escorted them to their designated work site.

The Command urged members of the public to avoid spreading unverified information capable of causing panic, tension, or the harassment of innocent citizens.

Police spokesperson, DSP Oluseyi Babaseyi, reiterated the Command's commitment to maintaining security across Ogun State and encouraged residents to verify information through official channels before sharing it.
