Using a cylinder that has passed its statutory testing due date is one of the major causes of explosion incidents and LPG related accidents.

According to SON (Standard Organisation of Nigeria), Cylinders have a lifespan of 15 years, but must be requalified every 5 years.

The process of requalification includes testing for usability and stamping with new test due date, before sending for circulation to the market.

To check your cylinder expiry/ test due date, check the metal strips that connects the body of the cylinder to the handle.

It is Alphanumeric, where the Alphabet stand for month and the number stands for year.

A is used to represent January- March
B represents April- June
C July- September
D October- December

If your cylinder is labelled B25, it means the expiry/testing due date is April 2025
