Mary Anderson is best known for inventing the windshield wiper. In 1903, while visiting New York City, she noticed that streetcar drivers had to open the windows of their vehicles during rain or snow to see.
This inconvenience led her to develop a solution: a manually operated device with a lever inside the vehicle that could be used to move a rubber blade across the windshield, clearing away rain, snow, or debris. Anderson patented her invention in 1903, but it took several years for it to gain widespread adoption in the automotive industry.
Today, windshield wipers are an essential safety feature on all motor vehicles, thanks to Mary Anderson's innovative idea.

Garrett Augustus Morgan Sr. is credited with inventing one of the earliest versions of the modern traffic signal. In 1923, he patented his design for a three-position traffic signal, which included a manually operated STOP, GO, and an all-way stop position.
His traffic signal was notable for its innovation in improving road safety and regulating traffic flow, particularly in urban areas.
Morgan's invention laid the foundation for the development of the traffic signals that we see today, which are crucial for managing traffic efficiently and reducing accidents on roads worldwide.
