In a statistics carried out by LEDA in 2011, we discovered that 59 countries including Nigeria still use the death penalty as a means of punishment for capital offences. We still have death penalty in our laws. This is a serious infringement on the prisoner's right to life. We urge the National Assembly to remove the death penalty from our law in the ongoing 1999 Constitutional amendment.

These are just some of the characteristics of torture. LEDAP condemns torture because it's an infringement of our fundamental Human Rights as enshrined in our 1999 Constitution (as amended).
