For Osunlana Ezekiel Atodeji and Alao Michael Olayinka winning first place last year was a milestone, but talent like this makes it easy to see why. Team Danfo Ferry took the Lagos danfo, a symbol every Lagosian knows, and reimagined it as a vision for water transit.
This year, we’re looking for that same energy. The theme: The Circular Energy Innovation & Experience Center, anchored by a signature Energy Beacon symbolizing Africa’s energy future.
Open to undergraduates, graduate students, NYSC members and design school students anywhere in Africa. Enter solo or in a team of up to five.
We’re looking for talent across architecture, interior design, industrial design, engineering, product design, urban design, sustainability and technology.
Submit a short write-up of your idea, inspiration and sustainability strategy, along with high quality boards, renders or visuals that bring your solution to life. All entries must be original work; AI-generated submissions without design authorship will not be accepted.

Design Week Lagos is calling on the next generation of African designers.
This year’s theme is The Circular Energy Innovation & Experience Center, a campus where research, education, industry, and community meet. Beyond the main facility, participants design an Energy Beacon, a signature landmark built to symbolize Africa’s energy future.
This is a call to reimagine what energy infrastructure can be on the continent. Not just plants and grids, but spaces for learning, discovery, and cultural storytelling. Circular thinking, material innovation, climate responsiveness, and African heritage sit at the center of the brief.
Open to undergraduates, graduate students, and recent NYSC graduates. Solo or in teams of up to five.

From experiencing the exhibition as a member of the public to sharing insights as a panelist, Adeyemo Shokunbi (Adeyemo Shokunbi Jr), ARCON, FNIA, has engaged with Design Week Lagos from every angle. This year, as the Lead Scenographer for the Design + Innovation Exhibition 2026, he is stepping into a powerful new role.
Alongside a talented team of young Nigerian architects, Shokunbi is pushing boundaries to develop a unique spatial language. Together, they are transforming the newly revitalized Wole Soyinka Arts Centre, a space deeply rooted in Nigeria’s cultural story since 1977, into a living, breathing landscape for contemporary African design.
He isn’t just designing an exhibition; he’s crafting a journey. It’s about how you move through the space, what catches your eye, and the memories that linger after you walk out the door.
