Sugar Ray Robinson believed greatness was built in the details.

Before every fight, he sharpened his speed, reflexes, and coordination with relentless discipline. Outside the ring, he carried the same precision into his personal style, becoming known for his tailored suits, custom fight robes, love of music, and vibrant nightlife.

Robinson also operated a Harlem nightclub called Sugar Ray’s, reflecting his passion for entertainment beyond boxing. His influence reached far beyond championships, helping redefine what it meant to be a global sports icon.

On This Day in 1948, Chicago honored Ida B. Wells by naming the Ida B. Wells Homes after her, making it the first public housing development in the city to bear the name of a Black woman. The recognition reflected the enduring impact of the fearless journalist whose investigations into racial violence transformed investigative reporting in America.

Years earlier, Wells had meticulously documented hundreds of violent attacks using newspaper records, court documents, and eyewitness accounts, creating one of the earliest data driven campaigns for civil rights. Her work reached audiences across the United States and Europe, helping shape international awareness of racial injustice.

Her words outlived her lifetime. So did her legacy.
