The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has announced the final list of 17 candidates for the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Area Council elections set for February 12, 2026.

Sam Olumekun, INEC’s National Commissioner and Chairman of the Information and Voter Education Committee, disclosed this in a statement on Tuesday in Abuja. He noted that the list was finalized after the statutory period for candidate withdrawals and substitutions, as required by law.

On August 18, INEC had published the personal details of candidates nominated following party primaries. Olumekun stated that 17 political parties submitted their candidates’ details (Form EC9) by the August 11 deadline at 6 p.m.

He emphasized that no further withdrawals or substitutions would be permitted, except in cases of a candidate’s or running mate’s death before election day, as outlined in Section 34(1) of the Electoral Act.

The detailed list, including candidates’ political parties, ages, genders, and academic qualifications, is now available on INEC’s website and social media platforms for public review.
