“The sachet said POISON, yet Debby stirred it into her tea.”

Urgency

Debby wanted tea. It was what her cravings demanded.

She picked up a sachet on the table. On the back, in bold letters was printed POISON.

Without thinking, she opened the sachet, poured it into the cup, added milk and sugar, stirred it with a spoon and lifted it to her lips.

Just as she was about to drink, a piercing scream made her drop the cup.

It was 7 a.m. Mrs. Davis woke from a dream about her daughter. She couldn't understand why Debby would see the word poison and still go ahead to make tea with it.

Mrs. Davis and her husband owned a large company that had flourished over the years. They had worked hard to give their children everything they once lacked in life.

But in building that life they had given less of themselves; time for their children had been crowded out by work.

The dream felt urgent. Without calling first, Mrs. Davis drove through the morning to her daughter's apartment. When she arrived she met a sight that stopped her heart.

******************
Debby had been a quiet, naive church girl. She had a triangular movement; church, classes, hostel. Then she’d met a new group of friends who changed everything.
*****************

Mrs. Davis knocked and got no answer. The apartment door was open. Inside, the place was a mess as if abandoned; the air smelled stale. She searched every room, the kitchen, the living area, growing afraid.

In the bathroom she found Debby squatting on the floor, a knife in her hand. She had been cutting herself; vomit lined the toilet.

“Jesus! Debby! Debby, what is wrong with you?” Mrs. Davis cried. Debby was numb, not speaking, as if no one were there. Mrs. Davis pulled her up, carried her to the bed and began to pray.

She called her husband on phone while still praying. He sensed the tenseness in the atmosphere and immediately joined the prayer without asking.

For a long time they prayed until, at last, Debby called out, “Mummy.” Her mother hugged her tightly and thanked God that Debby had started responding.

She helped her freshen up and rushed her to the hospital.

Over the following days, the truth came out. The friends Debby had met at night classes belonged to a cult. At first they’d seemed normal, even helpful. When Debby refused their invitations, they began to bully and threaten her.

She couldn't tell anyone because of the threats, and the pressure pushed her into depression and to the edge of su***de.

Her parents treated the matter seriously. They prayed, they involved the right authorities, and slowly the threat was removed. Bit by bit, Debby found safety again.

Dear parents,
Your children are part of your ministry. Be sensitive to them and the things that go on around them. There are many seeking for opportunities to parent children that are not well parented, don't let your children become a victim. God bless you.

Question for the day;
What other strategies do you suggest that Debby's parents take to speed her recovery?

Even in the Delay

Kate prepared for work against the next day. She arranged all she needed to carry along to work. She was always punctual and she had managed to maintain status quo.

It was towards the end of the month and she was running low on cash.

"Oh God, I wish I will just see Madam Theresa tomorrow so I won't spend any money on transportation. At least what I have left will be enough to transport me for the remaining two days," she said in hope.

She woke up early the next morning to prepare for work. She was all dressed up and only needed to pick up her bag and step out.

As she got to the door, she realized the key wasn't on the lock.

"Oh God not now, I'm running late already. She searched and searched, scattered the whole place but couldn't find it. She couldn't leave without locking her house.

Holy spirit, please I saw this key this morning before I had my bath, show me where it is. She pleaded.

She ransacked more then when she had given up she just walked back to the door. A little shift if glance she saw the keys sitting quietly in the window.

Thank you Lord, she said quickly and dashed out. She was already too late, she couldn't even stand a chance with madam Theresa judging from the time she eventually left the house.

She concluded she would borrow some money to transport herself to work for the few days left.

As she stood at bus stop waiting for a bus. A clean tinted car packed Ănfront of her. She knew how young rich Yahoo guys could be, they liked to show off to vulnerable ladies and she already expected one of such. She moved further away from the car but the vehicle kept following her.

She was already getting embarrassed and had started processing on how she will vent her anger on the person then, Madam Theresa opened the door slightly and shouted "Kateeee, come inside." Kate was surprised, that wasn't madam Theresa's car.

She got in marveled at the car. She got to know that Madam Theresa's vehicle broke down and she had to carry her husband's car instead which explained why she was still on the road at that time.

Although there were delays, they were still both on time. After expressing gratitude Kate was about to alight from the car.

"Hold on Kate, I just feel like giving you something," she drew out some mints notes from her purse and handed them to Kate.

It was a miracle, two answers all at the same time. Free ride and money more than enough to cater for her need before she received her salary.

Kate soon realized that all things had worked together for her good. The delay was indeed a blessing in disguise
