THREE SUSPECTS ARRESTED FOR UNLAWFUL POSSESSION OF FIREARM AND AMMUNITION, 1 AK-47 RIFLE & 244 AMMUNITION RECOVERED
On 22nd June 2026, at about 12.30am, credible intelligence received by Police operatives attached to Lapai Div indicated that three suspicious persons were sighted on a motorcycle, moving through Yawa village via Lapai.
On receipt of this information, Police operatives mobilised with vigilante members and trailed the suspected persons to a riverbank at Yawa village, bordering Niger and Kogi state. The suspects arrested are;
- Mohammed Abubakar 28yrs
- Shede Ibrahim 25yrs
- Babuga Lawali 20yrs; all of Shanawa village, Kotonkarfe area of Kogi state,
The suspects were arrested at the riverbank during an attempt to cross the river through a canoe, and when their belongings were searched, the following items were recovered;
- One AK-47 rifle, with a magazine
- Two hundred and forty-four (244) rounds of live ammunition
- Three cutlasses, and
- A sum of twenty-eight thousand ( #28,000) naira.
In the course of interrogation, the suspects claimed that the rifle and ammunition were given to them by one Majo, a leader of a group (Kungiyar) in Kogi State for self-defence, and that they had come to Niger State from Kogi in search of their rustled cattle.
However, investigation is still ongoing to identify other accomplices and recover more weapons in a bid to curb proliferation of arms and ammunition in the State, after which they will be charged to court for prosecution.
(2) TWO SUSPECTS ARRESTED FOR CRIMINAL CONSPIRACY, ALLEGED CHILD TRAFFICKING AND RITUAL ACTIVITIES, FOUR CHILDREN RESCUED.
Police operatives of the Command's State Intelligence Department, acting on reliable information on 3rd June 2026 mobilized to a location behind old Nepa area, Suleja where a suspected child trafficker and ritualist was arrested, and four children between the ages of 4-7yrs were rescued.
The suspects arrested include;
-Mrs Promise Chukwudi 68yrs of Suleja, and her accomplice,
-Mrs Suzanna Onojekwo 62yrs of Church road, Suleja in whose residence one of the children was found.
The suspects claimed that the children were released to them by their parents, all natives of Karim-Lamido in Gassol LGA of Taraba State, between the months of November to February 2026 for adoption. She added that she previously ran an orphanage home called Precious Promise Nursery, Primary & Orphanage home in 2022, but resumed operation in November 2025. She also claimed to be a licensed herbal medical practitioner who provides local medicine for ailments.
During investigations, different parents emerged from Abuja, Nasarawa and Benue States to claim the children contrary to the suspect's claim and in the course of searching her residence, the following were discovered;
- A Shrine
- Animal skulls
- Pieces of multi-coloured clothing
- Bird feathers, amongst other fe**sh items.
The suspects were transferred to the Police headquarters Minna for discreet investigation and the children were handed over to child rights agency for care, as investigation to identify the parents continues. The suspects have been charged to court for prosecution.
(3) TWO SUSPECTS ARRESTED WITH SUSPECTED COUNTERFEIT CURRENCY.
On 22nd June 2026 at about 8pm, Police surveillance patrol team attached to T/Wada Div while on routine patrol around David Mark roundabout, arrested two persons, namely;
-Abba Ibrahim 25yrs of Angwan-Sarki, Minna
-Abdulazeez Muhammad 20yrs of Paiko
The two suspects were intercepted on a Jincheng motorcycle and when searched, they were found in possession of ten pieces of 100-dollar notes suspected to be counterfeit amounting to 1000 dollars.
During interrogation, Abdulazeez claimed that he found a wallet containing the suspected counterfeit money on the ground in Paiko and he took the money, while he and his friend Abba arranged to meet in Minna to dispose of the counterfeit money. The two suspects have been transferred to SCID Minna for further investigation.
(4) RECOVERY OF TWO ABANDONED SUSPECTED STOLEN VEHICLES.
On 24th June, 2026 at about 6.30am, based on information received, one unregistered abandoned Toyota Camry vehicle found around Gongokpi primary school, Sauka-kahuta Minna was recovered by the surveillance patrol team attached to T/Wada Div. The vehicle was searched and some documents were recovered with chassis number 4T4BF1K1CR229401.
Similarly, on the same date at about 9am, another Toyota Corolla vehicle, ash colour with Reg. No KTU 833 FH was also recovered within Tunga area, and when searched, it was discovered that the battery of the vehicle was removed and no document was found. The two vehicles are in custody and investigation is ongoing.
(5) TWO SUSPECTS ARRESTED FOR THEFT OF MOTORCYCLE, TWO STOLEN MOTORCYCLES RECOVERED.
On 21st June 2026 at about 11pm, a distress call was received by 'B' Div Kotangora which indicated that a motorcycle was snatched from a victim around Angwan-Nasarawa area of Kotangora. Police operatives of the Div moved to the location and based on information, two suspects were arrested at a hotel by Barracks gate Kotangora, who are;
-Ayuba Sani 25yrs of Riba village, Keebi State
-Ishaya Isah 20yrs of Keebi State.
The suspects were arrested with two Bajaj motorcycles snatched from victims. They confessed that they usually offered their victims cold drinks laced with some intoxicants, while on a boarded motorcycle, and immediately the riders consumed this, they became unconscious, and the motorcycle would be taken away.
The suspects are also under further investigation.
