This morning, while I was on my way to Subh, a verse came to my mind, and I started pondering over it. The verse is from Sūratul Ḥijr:
قال الله تعالى: قال و من يقنط من رحمة ربه إلا الضالين
"He said, 'And who despairs of the mercy of his Lord except for those who are astray?'"
Abu al-Anbiyā’ (father of the prophets) realized the mercy of his Lord after being reminded, and he said:
"Who would despair of the mercy of their Lord except those who are lost?"
This means that despair only comes to those who turn away from Allah and do not recognize His greatness. Nothing can limit Allah; He does whatever He wills.
As Muslims, we must never despair of Allah’s mercy. If you are asking Allah for something, do not say, “Allah will not answer me.” If you have disobeyed Allah and are seeking forgiveness, do not say, “Allah will not forgive me.”
Allah says in Sūrat Az-Zumar:
قل يا عبادي الذين أسرفوا على أنفسهم ، لا تقنطوا من رحمة الله
"Say - O Messenger, to My servants who have gone beyond the limit against themselves by committing sins: Do not despair of Allah’s mercy and forgiveness."
Allah forgives all sins for those who repent. He is forgiving towards the sins of those who turn back to Him and merciful towards them.
Remember: No matter how many mistakes you have made, as long as you sincerely return to Allah, hope is never lost. Allah’s mercy is greater than your sins.
