đź‘ CHAPTER SIXđź‘

The headlines splashed across every tabloid and social media site the next morning: “Adrian Moretti Spotted With Mystery Woman at Five-Star Restaurant!” Photos of Adrian with an elegantly dressed woman were accompanied by speculation and whispers about infidelity.

Elena’s assistant, Sophia, approached her cautiously as she was scrolling through her phone, smirking at the headlines.
“Mrs. Moretti,” Sophia said carefully, “the press has been calling all morning, wanting a comment about… the photos.”

Elena waved a dismissive hand. “Oh, I’ve got this,” she said smoothly. “Where’s that press crew waiting?”

“They’re set up by the front entrance,” Sophia replied, glancing nervously at her boss’s confident smile.

With her head held high, Elena made her way to the front entrance, where cameras flashed and microphones were thrust toward her. Reporters began shouting questions, each trying to outdo the other to get her attention.

“Mrs. Moretti! Is there trouble in paradise?” a journalist shouted.

“Elena, any truth to the rumors that your husband’s seeing another woman?” called another.

Elena paused, flashing them all a serene, confident smile. She shook her head, letting out a soft laugh that seemed to catch everyone off guard.

“Oh, please,” she said, her tone light and amused.
“Adrian was simply dining with his cousin. The press will do anything to create a scandal. There’s nothing to worry about here.”

The reporters exchanged surprised glances, murmuring among themselves as Elena turned away, still smiling. She had delivered the perfect, calm rebuttal to the rumors, but as she walked back toward the car, her expression hardened.

Once inside, she pulled out her phone and dialed a number from memory. The line rang only once before it was picked up.

“Gil,” she said, her voice cold and calculating, “I have a little job for you.”

“Of course, Mrs. Moretti,” Gil replied, his tone respectful but eager. “What do you need?”

Her smile was as sharp as glass.
“My husband needs a little… reminder about loyalty. I want him robbed, stripped, and left beaten in the middle of the road. Nothing too deadly, of course, but he should feel it.”

“Consider it done,” Gil replied without hesitation. “Any specific time?”

“Tonight,” she said coolly. “And make it hurt.”

Hours later, Adrian limped into the house, bruised and bloodied, his clothes torn, and his face swollen with fresh cuts and bruises.

He clutched his side, clearly struggling as he stumbled through the doorway.

“Elena!” he roared, his voice raw with anger and pain. “You… you did this!”

Elena appeared at the top of the staircase, casually leaning against the railing, watching him with a mocking smile.
“Oh, Adrian,” she cooed, pretending to look concerned.
“What happened to you?”

He glared up at her, his face twisted with rage. “Don’t play games with me, Elena! You’re pure evil!”

She laughed, the sound echoing through the hall.
“Evil? Oh, Adrian, this is just the beginning,” she said, her tone icy and precise.
“You really think you can humiliate me and walk away without consequences?”

Adrian’s eyes blazed.
“This—this is insane! You’re insane! Do you think I’ll just take this?”

Elena slowly descended the staircase, each step controlled and deliberate.

“Oh, you don’t have much of a choice, darling. This is a warning, a little taste of what you can expect if you continue to embarrass me.”

Adrian clenched his fists, his jaw tight with fury.
“You’ll regret this, Elena. I swear it.”

“Regret?” she sneered, stepping close enough that he could see the chilling fire in her eyes.

“You don’t know the meaning of the word. If you so much as think about pulling another stunt like that, it won’t just be a few bruises next time.”

He met her gaze, unwilling to back down despite his injuries. “You think you’re untouchable, don’t you?”

“Untouchable?” she repeated, a smirk playing on her lips.
“Maybe I am, Adrian. But you… you’re starting to look rather vulnerable.”

He clenched his teeth, the bitterness evident in his voice.
“People like you never win in the end, Elena. Eventually, you’ll slip up.”

She tilted her head, feigning sympathy.
“Oh, Adrian, it’s cute that you think that.” She reached out, patting his cheek in a mocking gesture.

“But you’ll find I’m quite good at staying on top. And as for you…” Her gaze turned dark, her voice dropping to a whisper.
“One more mistake, and you’ll see just how dangerous I can be.”
