Avoid These Common Grammatical Mistakes
Improve your English by correcting these frequent errors:
1. Incorrect Word Choice
❌ I will go there in case of incasity.
✔️ I will go there in case of necessity.
2. Wrong Preposition Usage
❌ Reduce the volume of the radio.
✔️ Turn down the volume on the radio.
3. Incorrect Preposition in Expressions
❌ She slapped me on my face.
✔️ She slapped me in the face.
4. Inappropriate Expression
❌ They were doing romance in public.
✔️ They were showing PDA (public displays of affection).
👉 PDA refers to affectionate behaviour like hugging or kissing in public.
5. Incorrect Use of “Wish”
❌ I wish you stop interrupting me.
✔️ I wish you would stop interrupting me.
👉 Use “would” to express annoyance about repeated actions.
6. Talking About Past Regrets
❌ I wish I could attend the meeting yesterday.
✔️ I wish I could have attended the meeting yesterday.
👉 Use “could have + past participle” for missed opportunities in the past.
7. Misuse of Adjectives
❌ You’re a talkative.
✔️ You’re talkative.
✔️ You’re a talkative person.
👉 An adjective cannot stand alone after “a/an.”
8. Redundant Time Expression
❌ I came back around twelve o’clock in the midnight.
✔️ I came back around midnight (twelve o’clock at night).
9. Unnecessary Word Addition
❌ This perfume has many varieties.
✔️ This perfume has varieties.
10. Wordiness
❌ Put a word in each blank space.
✔️ Put a word in each blank.
👉 A “blank” already implies a space to be filled.
