I READ A MESSAGE AT 3:17 A.M.
I WISH I HADN’T.

THIS IS A FICTIONAL HORROR STORY.

I woke up around 3:17 a.m. because my phone started vibrating. There was no light. NEPA had taken light since night. Only my generator was on.

The message was from my own number.

It said: “Don’t turn.”

I thought it was a prank or maybe a delayed message, so I replied, “Who is this?”

The reply came immediately.

“If you turn and see it, it won’t ever leave you.”

My heart started beating fast. Before I could reply again, my generator suddenly went off by itself. The whole house went quiet.

That was when I heard footsteps inside my room.

I live alone. I locked my door.

My phone vibrated again.

“It’s behind you. It has been standing there since 3:10.”

I froze. I couldn’t move. I could feel something breathing close to my neck. The air was cold. It smelled like wet sand and rot.

Then something whispered my name.

I didn’t answer.

Another message came in.

“You already saw it. Even if you didn’t turn.”

I ran outside screaming.

This morning, my phone shows one unread message sent at 3:17 a.m. tomorrow.

I don’t know where to run. 😨
