How I landed My Biggest Sale Online

I once read about a research that was conducted to find out about the word that people use the most in conversation. Guess what the outcome was..."I". You didn't get that, did you? But, the answer was there all along. The word "I" has been used twice already in this article. Check the title and the first line.

What does that tell us? It means an average individual only cares or at the very least mostly care about himself.

I landed my biggest sales online couple of days ago by putting this sentiment into practice.

Here's the gist.

The client needed to update her version of Wordpress. She provided her website address and was waiting for offers. The task was quiet simple which naturally makes the competition intense.

Rather than rushing to pitch my service to her, I visited her blog, looked for areas that needed improvement and even took my time to read 2 of her posts; I didn't read the second through though.

The time stamp on the post showed that she had been away for about 2 years and only got back to blogging couple of weeks ago.

So, I went back to her with the following message:

"Hi, I am dseeker. I see you need someone to upgrade your wordpress and theme.

First of all, welcome back to the "blogosphere". I took time to read some of your post and I must say you are a prolific writer. Your story about what brought you back to blogging makes me wanna start writing again and you were right when you said: "I believe that if you’re born to write—for yourself, not for other people—that spark is never truly extinguished"

That was the first two paragraphs.

If you notice, everything in the first part of my message has nothing to do with me or my service. I talked about her writing prowess and even quote a sentence from one of her posts.

That quote is proof that I actually checked her blog and even read her posts.

Then, the next paragraph reads:

"I can update your wordpress and theme free of charge but, you need more than wordpress update.

You've got great content on that blog but the design is old fashioned, and doesn't represent your brand well."

Here, I offered to do her bidding free of charge and quickly followed it up with a statement that says she needed more than her current bidding.

Finally I closed the sales by offering my service thus:

"Here's the deal: I will update your wordpress and totally redesign the blog to modern day standard. I will use industry standard premium theme for your design so that the blog look beautiful, clean and professional."

I then stated my price and hit the enter key.

What do you think happened next?

Yes! She took the bait.

She sent me a thank you message for my words and took my offer.

But, It wasn't just a bait. It was a damn good bait. You don't go fishing by using a wood as a bait and then hope that the fish will come biting. You have to get a real bait.

I wasn't just thinking about how to get her to open her wallet; I was thinking about how to add value to her business. I showed her I truly care and she saw through that.

Show your customers you care. Show them you can add value to their brand. Give them a taste of what you are bringing to the table and they will crave for your service.
