There is nothing like prosperity gospel.
There is the gospel.
Jesus died for our sins and rose to give us eternal life.
However, God prospers and there are laws of prosperity.
There is no marriage gospel.
There is no healing gospel.
There is no mental health gospel.
There is no ministry growth gospel.
There is no prayer and fasting gospel.
Yet the Bible gives specific details on these subjects and how God blesses us through them.
Fundamentally, we must agree that God prospers people materially, even despite economic realities.
We know a widow gave the part of her last meal to a prophet and was sustained materially.
She clearly gave her way to sustenance, she could have eaten her seed and died.
We know a boy gave his lunch to Jesus which got multiplied for others.
We know that Peter borrowed Jesus his boat and Jesus didn’t leave him stranded in his business.
Let us be clear, we cannot invalidate giving as an expression of faith when it comes to material prosperity.
Even if it is giving to the poor, I give to the poor and I know that God rewards me for giving.
It is God who gives seed to the sower and bread to the eater.
Does that invalidate working hard? No.
Does it invalidate creative genius? No.
Does it invalidate divine leading in the business? No.
Would our lives be better collectively if the economy was better, Nigerian leadership was better? Yes!!
Do miracles invalidate economic wizardry? No.
Pastor Olumide said ‘since you have been giving what have you received or something like that’…
I think that’s quite subjective, people actually have very strange testimonies of financial prosperity from giving!
Very very strange!!
If people reap when they give what then do we say about the many who have given in faith but have not reaped?
We say the same of many believers in Christ who don’t speak in tongues, heal the sick or cast out devils.
The fact that something doesn’t work for some of us doesn’t mean it cannot work for all of us.
Knowledge grows on spiritual matters, it is true.
I once gave money to a fellow based on God’s instructions and within the hour someone I don’t know gave me that money back, he also felt led to give me money within the hour.
Sowing and reaping remains a biblical reality.
While Pastor Korede Komaiya may not have explained his points in the most detailed manner, he clearly doesn’t have the semantic verbosity that matches the cerebral tone of the conversation but he is not all together wrong, frankly he projects a respect for money and a materialistic tone, especially when he said he can never follow a poor pastor, I think he lost the jury before the case even began, the court of public opinion will not be on his side.
Professor Yemi Osinbajo was once involved in a helicopter crash but he clearly attributed his survival from that crash to God, someone else will argue that God wasn’t involved, he was just lucky.
Same way people have actually unlocked supernatural flow by giving in faith, it’s not luck. Such realities exist.
Does this invalidate the fact that there is a materialistic problem in church?
No! It doesn’t.
However we cannot invalidate a truth because of its abuse, same way the church has invalidated once saved forever saved because they believe it leads people to sin the more.
Lastly, while we fight materialism, we must be careful not to campaign for poverty, the lines can be thin sometimes.
I believe God prospers people with all my heart, the first and the last recorded miracles of Jesus were material provisions, go and confirm that, you will see that I am correct.
Let brotherly love continue.
