STAKEHOLDERS' ENGAGEMENT ON NEONATAL/NEWBORN CARE

PARTICIPANTS: Govt officials, health personnel and NOA, Rivers State

MASSAGE: The Unicef rep, Dr Noma Owens informed that as part of efforts by Unicef to promote neonatal and child health in Rivers State, the UN agency constructed and fully equipped a child care unit at the Eleme General Hospital in Rivers State, but regretted that the unit was not being utilized. He added that the stakeholders engagement was put together by Unicef as part of measures to revitalize the unit. He emphasized that NOA was brought in to create the necessary awareness and demand for the services of the unit.

The program which was attended by the Vice Chairman, Eleme LGA, Perm Sec, Min of Health, State Director NOA, Medical Directors, Community, orientation and Mobilisation Officer,(COMO), Eleme LGA and staff as well as Unicef officials and a host of others later broke into syndicate groups.

A communique came out at the end of proceedings: Health officials were urged to put their acts together and tidy up the supply side (prompt and professional health care services) while NOA was to come up with a template to ramp up the demand side (Awareness creation, community engagement, etc.)
