Hello ! Are you feeling the dry season heat already? Hope you're doing all you can to stay cool? The dry season brings with it a myriad of challenges, and one that often goes unnoticed until it settles on every surface in our homes is dust. As temperatures rise and humidity drops, managing dust becomes a paramount task. Today, we'll explore practical steps to keep your living space clean and comfortable during the dry season.
FREQUENT CLEANING ROUTINE Embrace a proactive approach by establishing a regular cleaning routine. Dusting surfaces, sweeping floors, and vacuuming carpets should become part of your weekly schedule. Focus on high-traffic areas and commonly neglected spots to ensure a thorough clean.
USE DOORMATS Minimize the amount of dust entering your home by strategically placing doormats at entrances. Encourage family members and guests to leave their shoes at the door or use shoe racks. This simple practice can significantly reduce the dust brought in from outside.
SEAL GAPS&CRACKS Dust can find its way into your home through even the tiniest gaps and cracks. Conduct a thorough inspection of windows, doors, and other potential entry points. Seal any openings to minimize the infiltration of dust especially if you'll be travelling for some time.
USE MICROFIBRE CLEANING CLOTHS Traditional cleaning tools like feather dusters can often stir up more dust than they capture. Switch to microfiber cloths and dusters, as they effectively trap and hold onto dust particles, leaving surfaces cleaner with fewer airborne particles.
CEILING FAN Ceiling fans can be dust magnets. Clean fan blades regularly using a damp cloth to prevent dust from being circulated around the room. Consider investing in a fan with blades designed to repel dust.
With a proactive approach, you can conquer the dust challenges that accompany the dry season. By incorporating these practical tips into your household routine, you'll create a cleaner, healthier living environment for you and your family. So, gear up and let the battle against dust begin!

Hello ! It's another fine Sunday here in PHC. We hope you're having a swell weekend? Today our post will be on using a very natural means to repel a very difficult pest-COCKROACHES. Cockroaches are unwelcome guests in any home, and their presence can be a source of frustration and disgust. While there are numerous chemical pesticides available, many people are prefer natural and safer alternatives to rid their homes of these pests. One such natural remedy is the use of bay leaves. Bay leaves, also known as laurel leaves, come from the bay laurel tree (Laurus nobilis). They are commonly used as a seasoning in cooking due to their distinctive aroma and flavor. What makes bay leaves effective against cockroaches is their strong scent, which contains compounds that repel these pests.
HOW TO USE BAY LEAVES TO REPEL COCKROACHES:
GATHER YOUR SUPPLIES: Dried bay leaves (readily available at most grocery stores)
and a small sachet or a mesh bag.
PREPARE BAY LEAF SACHETS:
Take a handful of dried bay leaves. Using scissors, cut them into small pieces or simply crush them to release their scent.
Place the crushed leaves in a sachet or a mesh bag. You can also use small, breathable cloth bags or even make your own using a small piece of cheesecloth and twine.
STRATEGICALLY PLACE THE SACHETS:
Identify areas in your home where cockroaches are most likely to hide or enter, such as kitchen cabinets, under sinks, near baseboards, and behind appliances.
Hang or place the bay leaf sachets in these areas, ensuring they are not obstructed and the scent can disperse freely.
The strong scent of bay leaves, particularly when crushed, acts as a natural repellent for cockroaches. The aroma masks the pheromones that cockroaches use to communicate with each other, making it difficult for them to navigate and locate food sources. As a result, cockroaches are discouraged from staying in the treated areas.
Additional Tips: Keep your home clean and free of food scraps to make it less attractive to cockroaches.
Seal any cracks or openings where cockroaches can enter your home.
Use bay leaves as a preventive measure, even if you don't have an active cockroach infestation.
