No fewer than fifteen out of the sixteen communities in Ogbaru Local Government
Area of Anambra state have been submerged by flood a day after the Federal government announced the coming of this year's flooding.

Recall that the Nigerian Metrological Agency (NIMET) had earlier announced and listed states in the country that would be affected by flood disaster, asking those residing at the coastal areas to commence relocation.

The flooding was on the account of the last rain fall that caused the overflow of the River Niger and ultimately submerged buildings and and farm lands in the area.

Meanwhile areas that are yet to be affected by the flooding such as Okpoko saw villagers making early harvest of their crops in order to save their crops from being washed away by flood.

However, the Anambra State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA) has opened holding centres across vulnerable local government areas and urged residents of riverine communities particularly in Ogbaru, Anambra East, and Anambra West to move to higher grounds for safety.

At the moment, Governor Charles Soludo represented by the Deputy Governor, Dr Onyekachukwu Ibezim is working with the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and the Federal Government, to step up flood control efforts.

According to the Deputy Governor Ibezim who is the Chairman of the Flood Management Committee, the holding camps are being upgraded and the respective local government Mayor's are on top of the game in ensuring that the impact would be minimal.

He further explained that the joint efforts of the state government and UNDP include clearing blocked drainages, enforcing the “Operation Clear Your Waterways” directive, and advancing plans for long-term dredging of the River Niger.

But some of the villagers who spoke with newsmen lamented that they are yet to take delivery of any relief materials from government or any other agencies.

"The entire 15 out of the 16 communities have been affected by the flooding and no one has come here to see us or may be they are on their way to Ogbaru" the villagers stated.

Troops Of OPHK Eliminate 13 JAS/ISWAP Terrorists In Failed Ambush

Troops of Operation HADIN KAI have again demonstrated resilience in the face of adversary, neutralising 13 Boko Haram insurgents in a failed ambush/Improvised Explosive Device, (IED) attack on troops' convoy at Kareto.

The failed ambush occurred while the troops were providing es**rt to humanitarian trucks along the Gubio-Damasak road.

The terrorists, during the failed operation, detonated two command IEDs, followed by a high volume of fire.

However, the gallant troops swiftly took position and professionally suppressed the insurgents with overwhelming firepower, eliminating 13 insurgents instantly, while others scampered in disarray.

The determined troops who further engaged the terrorists in pursuit, exploited the area and recovered 8 AK-47 rifles, ten AK-47 rifle magazines and a large cache of 7.62 mm ammunition.

Other items recovered include a camel bag, and several rolls of detonating cord wires for making IEDs, as well as several primed IEDs.

Unfortunately, a soldier was slightly wounded in action but stable, and 4 MRAP tyres were damaged, while two of the trucks were engulfed in flames during the encounter.

The troops have sustained deliberate operations in the general area to deny the terrorists freedom of action, while continuing with the humanitarian operations of providing security to the relief materials, which have since been secured, and moved to Damasak.
