Empowering Communities: HCOMDI and CBM Strengthen Response to SGBV and Domestic Violence

The Hikima Community Mobilization and Development Initiative HCOMDI, in partnership with CBM, has completed a strategic training for Psychosocial Support Volunteers under the STILNN Project, aimed at reinforcing community-based responses to Sexual and Gender-Based Violence SGBV and Domestic and Gender-Based Violence DGBV.

Key Highlights and Impact

1. Strengthened Case Identification
Volunteers were trained to accurately and sensitively identify SGBV/DGBV cases, recognizing not only physical signs of abuse but also subtle emotional and behavioral indicators. Strong emphasis was placed on survivor confidentiality, safety, and ethical case handling.

2. Foundational Psychosocial Support Skills
Participants developed practical skills in active listening, empathy, and non-judgmental communication. Training in Psychological First Aid (PFA) equipped them to provide immediate, compassionate support while minimizing re-traumatization and promoting survivor dignity and agency.

3. Clear and Safe Referral Pathways
A major outcome was improved understanding of structured referral systems. Volunteers learned how to securely link survivors to medical care, legal aid, and social welfare services, guided by informed consent and a survivor-centered approach.

Strategic Significance
This initiative strengthens grassroots protection systems by creating a network of trained first responders within communities. By building local capacity, HCOMDI and CBM are ensuring survivors have timely, safe, and ethical access to essential services an essential step toward breaking cycles of violence and fostering safer, more resilient communities.

7th Orphanage Visit Edition Sees Birth of a Vision ‘Caliphate Feed a Thousand Initiative’ Announced

The Ibrahim Baba-Inna IBI Foundation, in collaboration with Hikima Community Mobilization and Development Initiative (HCOMDI), visited the Sokoto Orphanage Home as part of activities commemorating Nigeria’s Independence Day under its Orphanage Visit Initiative (7th Edition).

The annual initiative, carried out across the 36 states of Nigeria, is designed to show compassion, provide support, and extend a sense of belonging to orphans and vulnerable children. It serves as a reminder that true independence is incomplete without care for the most vulnerable members of society.

Speaking during the occasion, the Executive Director of HCOMDI, Hajia Dr. Ubaida Muhammad Bello FICEN (Sarauniyar Shariffan Sokoto) expressed gratitude for the opportunity to share love and solidarity with the children. In her address, she announced the birth of a new vision the Caliphate Feed a Thousand Initiative a pledge and commitment to ensure that orphans and less privileged children within the Caliphate and beyond are fed and cared for, free of charge.

According to her, this initiative will soon grow from a dream to a reality, strengthening the culture of compassion, charity, and collective responsibility within society. She emphasized that the work of caring for orphans goes beyond one-off visits; it is a lifelong duty of service and humanity.

As the visit came to a close, it was clear that the true spirit of independence lies not only in freedom but in the kindness we extend to one another. The smiles on the faces of the children stood as a powerful reminder that every act of compassion plants seeds of hope for a brighter tomorrow.

With the unveiling of the Caliphate Feed a Thousand Initiative, HCOMDI and IBI Foundation have reaffirmed a timeless truth when we feed the hungry, we nourish humanity itself. This vision is not just a promise, but a movement of love, dignity, and shared responsibility that will continue to echo far beyond the walls of the orphanage.
