WARNING: BEWARE OF STURNUS MOBILE MALWARE
(The Sophisticated Android Banking Trojan)

WHAT IS STURNUS?
Sturnus is a highly advanced Android banking trojan designed by a specialized cybercrime group to steal your financial credentials, sensitive data, and take full remote control of your device.

It poses a serious threat to mobile users and banking customers.

HOW STURNUS ATTACKS YOUR PHONE

Sturnus is highly effective because it employs multiple sophisticated techniques:

1. DISGUISED INSTALLATION: It is primarily distributed via third-party sources (not the official Google Play Store), often disguised as legitimate apps like "Google Chrome" or "System Updates."

2. OVERLAY ATTACKS: It monitors when you open your banking app and immediately layers a convincing, fake login screen over the top to steal your usernames and passwords.

3. BYPASSING ENCRYPTED CHATS: Sturnus is notable for its ability to steal data from encrypted messaging apps (like WhatsApp, Telegram and Signal).

It does this by abusing Accessibility Services to read the messages after they are decrypted and displayed on your screen.

4. REMOTE CONTROL (RAT): It grants attackers full Virtual Network Computing (VNC) access, allowing them to remotely control your phone, perform unauthorized transactions, and hide their actions using a black screen overlay.

🛡️ SBI Cyber Security RECOMMENDATIONS: The following is your Action Plan to Stay Safe.

STEPS TO PREVENT STURNUS INFECTION AND protect yo3ur FINANCES:

1. PREVENTION IS KEY.

●STOP SIDELOADING: ONLY download and install apps from the official Google Play Store. Do not install apps from websites, emails, or text messages.

●RESTRICT PERMISSIONS: Be extremely cautious of any app (especially if it is not a trusted financial or utility app) that requests access to Accessibility Services or Device Administrator privileges. DENY THESE REQUESTS.

●ENABLE 2FA: Use Two-Factor Authentication (2FA) on all your banking, email, and social media accounts.

2. WHAT TO DO IF YOU SUSPECT INFECTION

●ISOLATE IMMEDIATELY: Turn off Wi-Fi and Mobile Data to cut off the malware's communication.

●REVOKE ADMIN ACCESS: Go to Settings \rightarrow Security \rightarrow Device Admin Apps and deactivate any suspicious, unknown app.

●UNINSTALL IN SAFE MODE: Reboot your phone into Safe Mode (disables third-party apps), and then uninstall the malicious app from your phone's App list.
●CONTACT YOUR BANK: Report the potential compromise immediately and monitor your accounts for any suspicious transactions.

STAY SAFE.
