Over 1,000 young leaders, policymakers, and changemakers gathered in Cross River State on International Youth Day for the first-ever Youth Opportunity Summit in Southern Nigeria.
Theme: “Leveraging Opportunities: Building a Future-Ready Youth”
The summit delivered keynotes, panels, a pitching competition, and cultural showcases — all focused on preparing Nigeria’s youth for global competitiveness.
Special spotlight on — Southern Zonal Coordinator, MWFAAN, Project Manager, USGEAAN (Akwa Ibom), and representative — who proudly championed youth voices and engagement at this historic platform.

Today, July 17th, 2025, the Executives of the U.S. Government Exchange Alumni Association received Dr. Mike Ervin, the Political and Economic Chief of the U.S. Consulate in Lagos, at Uyo Window on America in Akwa Ibom State.
The visit featured a roundtable conversation with U.S. exchange alumni active in politics, business, and technology, exploring ongoing initiatives, challenges, and collaborative opportunities.

The Fishing Net Gains Project is a community-driven environmental innovation that focuses on:
• Recovering and recycling abandoned fishing nets and marine debris that pollute coastal ecosystems.
• Transforming waste nets into valuable products such as bags, footwear, and home furnishings—creating a sustainable value chain.
• Empowering women and youth in coastal communities through skills training in fabric production and green entrepreneurship.
• Reducing ocean pollution while promoting the circular economy and climate-smart livelihoods.
• Collaborating with partners like Ocean Conservancy and Global Ghost Gear Initiative (GGGI) to scale impact.
This project exemplifies how U.S. exchange alumni are leveraging their international exposure to drive sustainable change locally—bridging environmental action with economic empowerment.
