Delta Leaders Urged to Reactivate Burutu Marine School for Youth Empowerment
Niger Delta Activist Engr. Amunu Suyei Calls for Immediate Government Action
Burutu, Delta State — Press Release
Niger Delta activist Engr. Amunu Suyei has called on the Delta State Government and relevant authorities to urgently reactivate the abandoned Burutu Marine/Technical School, stressing that the institution remains a strategic facility for youth empowerment and technical development in the riverine communities.
In a public appeal, Engr. Suyei urged His Excellency Sheriff Oborevwori, Governor of Delta State, to prioritize the rehabilitation and operational activation of the Burutu Marine School so that it can fulfill its original mandate of training young people in marine and technical skills.
He also appealed to The Right Honourable Emomotimi Dennis Guwor, Speaker of the Delta State House of Assembly, to support policies and legislative actions that will facilitate the restoration and full functioning of the institution.
Furthermore, the activist called on the leadership of the Marine/Technical School, particularly Rector Engr. Akpoyibo Ebiowei Famous, to work closely with government authorities and stakeholders to ensure that the institution becomes operational again.
According to Engr. Suyei, the continued abandonment of the facility has limited opportunities for many youths in the riverine areas who seek to acquire technical and marine-based skills for sustainable livelihoods.
“Reviving the Burutu Marine School will create opportunities for skill development, employment, and economic growth within the Niger Delta region,” he said.
He stressed that activating the institution will not only empower young people but will also contribute to long-term peace, stability, and development in Delta State.
Engr. Suyei therefore urged the Delta State Government and relevant stakeholders to treat the matter with urgency and begin the necessary processes to bring the Burutu Marine/Technical School back into full operation for the benefit of the people.

PRESS RELEASE
Trained Ex-Agitators Forum Appeals to PAP Boss on Urgent Empowerment Needs
Warri, Delta State | January 9th, 2026
Media Inquiries: | Delta360
The Trained Ex-Agitators Forum, under the leadership of Engr. Amunu Suyei, wishes to formally appeal to High Chief Dr. Dennis B. Otuaro, Administrator of the Presidential Amnesty Programme (PAP), to urgently address the issue of post-training empowerment for ex-agitators who have successfully completed PAP vocational and technical training programmes.
The Forum reaffirms its full support for PAP leadership and aligns with the vision of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s “Renewed Hope Agenda”, which emphasizes youth empowerment, sustainable livelihoods, and peace consolidation in the Niger Delta.
However, the Forum is concerned that many trained ex-agitators remain without access to workshops, equipment, or tools necessary to deploy their skills productively. In some cases, beneficiaries are forced to carry out their work in third-party workshops, limiting their productivity and undermining the full impact of the government’s investment in skills development.
The Forum emphasizes that delayed or withheld empowerment erodes confidence in government initiatives and the Renewed Hope Agenda. Where training is provided without subsequent empowerment, it risks being perceived as mere manipulation of trust and support, rather than a tangible commitment to youth reintegration and economic participation.
The Forum, therefore, respectfully calls on PAP leadership to:
1. Prioritize the immediate provision of workshops, equipment, and starter tools for already trained ex-agitators.
2. Ensure structured cluster-based or cooperative support, in line with PAP policy on sustainable reintegration.
3. Uphold transparency, accountability, and efficiency in resource deployment to guarantee measurable outcomes.
The Trained Ex-Agitators Forum, under Engr. Amunu Suyei, reiterates its loyalty to the government and commitment to peace, emphasizing that empowered ex-agitators will strengthen communities, reduce unemployment, and promote visible dividends of government policy.
We urge PAP leadership to treat this matter with urgency, ensuring that the investments made in human capacity translate into economic empowerment, dignity of labour, and sustainable peace.
Signed
