THE DAILY FOUNTAIN
DAILY DEVOTIONAL OF THE
CHURCH OF NIGERIA (ANGLICAN COMMUNION)
DATE: FRIDAY, MAY 29, 2026
TOPIC: PROOF OF POWER THROUGH HOLY GHOST BAPTISM
READ: ACTS 2:29-36

29 “Men and brethren, let me speak freely to you of the patriarch David, that he is both dead and buried, and his tomb is with us to this day. 30 Therefore, being a prophet, and knowing that God had sworn with an oath to him that of the fruit of his body, [a]according to the flesh, He would raise up the Christ to sit on his throne,
31 he, foreseeing this, spoke concerning the resurrection of the Christ, that His soul was not left in Hades, nor did His flesh see corruption.
32 This Jesus God has raised up, of which we are all witnesses.
33 Therefore being exalted [b]to the right hand of God, and having received from the Father the promise of the Holy Spirit, He poured out this which you now see and hear.
34 “For David did not ascend into the heavens, but he says himself:
‘The Lord said to my Lord,
“Sit at My right hand,
35 Till I make Your enemies Your footstool.” ’
36 “Therefore let all the house of Israel know assuredly that God has made this Jesus, whom you crucified, both Lord and Christ.”

THE MESSAGE:

Our text provides a powerful testament to the power of the Holy Spirit to transform lives. Peter, filled with the Spirit, delivered a profound message, connecting the events of Pentecost to the prophecies of David in Psalm 16. Peter masterfully demonstrates how the events unfolding before their eyes - the resurrection of Jesus and the outpouring of the Holy Spirit - were foretold by David centuries before. This connection strengthens the credibility of the Gospel message and underscores the sovereignty of God's plan. Peter boldly proclaimed Jesus as both Lord and Christ, emphasising His divine authority and His place at the right hand of God.

This declaration challenged the listeners to acknowledge Jesus' Lordship and repent of their sins. It further highlighted the resurrection of Jesus as the cornerstone of the Christian faith, emphasising that Jesus' resurrection is not only a historical fact but also the source of life and hope for all who believe. What we learn from this encounter is that just as the Holy Spirit empowered Peter to deliver an effective message, it empowers us today to share our faith with boldness and conviction.

PRAYER: Lord, fill me with Your Holy Spirit, and empower me to share the Gospel of Jesus with clarity and conviction. Amen.

THE DAILY FOUNTAIN
DAILY DEVOTIONAL OF THE
CHURCH OF NIGERIA (ANGLICAN COMMUNION)
DATE: WEDNESDAY, MAY 27, 2026
TOPIC: THE BAPTISM OF THE HOLY SPIRIT
READ: ACTS 2:1-13

2 When the day of Pentecost came, they were all together in one place.
2 Suddenly a sound like the blowing of a violent wind came from heaven and filled the whole house where they were sitting.
3 They saw what seemed to be tongues of fire that separated and came to rest on each of them.
4 All of them were filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak in other tongues[a] as the Spirit enabled them.
5 Now there were staying in Jerusalem God-fearing Jews from every nation under heaven.
6 When they hearexplained this sound, a crowd came together in bewilderment, because each one heard their own language being spoken.
7 Utterly amazed, they asked: “Aren’t all these who are speaking Galileans?
8 Then how is it that each of us hears them in our native language?
9 Parthians, Medes and Elamites; residents of Mesopotamia, Judea and Cappadocia, Pontus and Asia,[b]
10 Phrygia and Pamphylia, Egypt and the parts of Libya near Cyrene; visitors from Rome
11 (both Jews and converts to Judaism); Cretans and Arabs—we hear them declaring the wonders of God in our own tongues!”
12 Amazed and perplexed, they asked one another, “What does this mean?”
13 Some, however, made fun of them and said, “They have had too much wine.”

THE MESSAGE:

Our Lord Jesus Christ had earlier devoted quality time in teaching His disciples about the person of the Holy Spirit and His importance in believers' lives (Acts 1:4-8). During his teaching, He that being baptised with water was not all that God wanted for His children, but that they should be baptised with the Holy Ghost as well (Acts 1:4; Joel 2:28, 29 Luke 24:49). The teachings of Christ present to believers the benefits they will derive from being baptised in the Holy Ghost. The baptism of the Holy Ghost makes supernatural power available for the believers (Acts 1:8; Luke 24:49). Holy Ghost baptism releases boldness upon the believers for an effective life of witnessing for Christ (Acts 1:8; 4:31). The Holy Ghost baptism enhances the manifestations of spiritual gift in believers' life (Acts 2:1-4, 11; Joel 2:28, 29).

Our text for today serves as a guide to the possibility of spirit baptism. What God did for Christ's disciples in the upper room on the day of Pentecost can be replicated in the life God's children who thirst and hunger for righteousness and are ready to come to Him in faith (Acts 1:39; Joel 2:28; Matthew 5:6; Acts 15:8, 9). To be baptised with the Holy Ghost, the believer must be pure and thirsty, with evidence of hunger for the fullness and the power of God. He/she must also ask in faith (Matthew 5:8; John 7:37, 38; Luke 11:9-13).

PRAYER: Let Your Spirit rest upon me, O Lord.
