We are deeply saddened by the sudden passing of Paulo Chicareli (1993–2026), an extraordinarily talented, kind, and deeply sincere artist, with whom we had the privilege of collaborating in recent years.
Paulo’s practice brought together graphic intervention, collage, archival material, and both found and new photography, forming a distinct visual language rooted in love, resistance, intimacy, and visibility.
Last year, Paulo created the work ‘Almost Every Corner of This City Has Witnessed Our Forbidden Love’, which documented and interpreted the relationship between Thieu and Will - a couple living in Breda with whom he formed a meaningful bond.
The work was presented as part of 'Levenslijnen / Life Stories', a collaborative project and exhibition developed by Pride Photo and BredaPhoto. Paulo also participated in the BredaPhoto international talent programme in 2023.
Paulo will be remembered for his rare sensitivity and generosity of spirit. We extend our deepest condolences to his loved ones.
