Two students, Stan Hettinga and Levi Dekker, are developing a generic sensor platform: a modular, drone-deployable system made up of small pods about the size of a ping-pong ball. These pods can be distributed over large areas to collect real-time data. Their innovation lies in the platform’s rapid, large-scale deployment and flexibility, as sensors can easily be swapped. This means the same platform can be used for various purposes, such as search and rescue, drone detection, environmental monitoring, or chemical hazard detection.
