Sinds 2024 werken aan een nieuwe richting binnen hun oeuvre. Waar ze eerder hun ideeën uitwerkten in ruimtelijke installaties, maken ze nu op zichzelf staande sculpturen waarin beeld en verhaal samenkomen. Op kleurrijke vaasvormen ontvouwen zich visuele vertellingen waarin feit en fictie in elkaar overlopen: een sprookjesfiguur kan naast een historische componist staan, een berkenboom kan blijdschap voelen of de hemel dragen.

De kunstenaars hebben zich laten inspireren door amforen, vazen uit de Griekse en Romeinse oudheid waarop scènes uit mythologie en het dagelijks leven werden afgebeeld. Door de ronde vaasvorm vloeien de getekende scènes in elkaar over, waardoor de verhalen zich als een doorlopend verhaal ontvouwen, zonder duidelijk begin of einde. Ook de materiaalkeuze is verassend en zet de kijker op het verkeerde been: de “vazen” zijn gemaakt van papier-maché in plaats van keramiek.

Since 2024, have been working in a new direction within their oeuvre. Whereas they previously developed their ideas in spatial installations, they now create autonomous sculptures in which image and narrative come together. On colorful, vase-like forms, visual stories unfold in which fact and fiction merge: a fairy-tale figure may stand beside a historical composer, a birch tree may feel joy or carry the sky.

The artists drew inspiration from amphorae—vessels from ancient Greek and Roman times that depicted scenes from mythology and everyday life. The rounded shape of the vases allows the drawn scenes to flow into one another, so the stories unfold as a continuous narrative, without a clear beginning or end. The choice of materials is also surprising and playfully misleading: the “vases” are made of papier-mâché rather than ceramic.

Nu te zien: Set the stage

Een selectie van nooit eerder vertoonde tekeningen van ontvouwt zich nu op de wanden van de tentoonstellingsruimte. Tekenen is voor hen een manier om ideeën te ontwikkelen, verhalen te verkennen en grip te krijgen op de werkelijkheid.
Tijdens de coronapandemie kreeg het tekenen een nog centralere rol, met name voor Marta. Gedurende twee jaar maakte zij elke dag minstens één tekening. Deze routine resulteerde in een omvangrijke reeks werken waarvan er ruim 200 te zien zijn bij 38CC.

Now on view: Set the Stage

A selection of never-before-exhibited drawings by is now unfolding on the walls of the exhibition space. For them, drawing is a way to develop ideas, explore stories, and gain a grip on reality.
During the coronavirus pandemic, drawing took on an even more central role, particularly for Marta. For two years, she created at least one drawing every day. This routine resulted in an extensive body of work, of which more than 200 pieces are currently on display at 38CC.

Come and admire the drawings and sculptures until July 5th.

Het kunstenaarsduo keert na ruim tien jaar terug bij 38CC met de tentoonstelling ‘Set the stage’

Hun werk onderzoekt hoe samenlevingen mythes creëren en hoe officiële geschiedenis en persoonlijke
herinneringen daarin door elkaar lopen. Set the stage biedt een inkijk in hun denkwereld,
waar verbeelding, ironie en absurditeit samenkomen.

The artist duo returns to 38CC after more than ten years with the exhibition Set the stage.

Their work explores how societies create myths and how official history and personal memories intertwine. Set the Stage offers a glimpse into their way of thinking, where imagination, irony, and absurdity come together.
