Hi, I'm Qilan Li, co-founder of Mulan Design. It was never easy to adapt into a totally different environment. I can still clearly remember the first presentation for an individual packaging design project in front of fifty classmates; the first project in an international group and how the different cultural perspectives affected the concepts. I realized that they were deeply interested in China and Chinese culture, even in the landscapes of China that we had seen in pictures. I taught them how to make dumplings, how to dance along Chinese songs. The diversity makes me think it could be, should be and will be my responsibility to let people know our uniqueness, ‘Chinese Breeze’ — a kind of feeling, sensibility and abstract.
I love traveling. I always get inspired by its perfect layout, magnificent buildings and enchanting landscape. I love dancing. All kinds of creative thoughts, daydreams, and ideas come through our head when we are dancing. Put your arms up in the air and cross your wrists while you move your hips side to side, or trace a body part – thighs, stomach, opposite arm, hips, breasts – with our fingers. I love playing instruments, Chinese traditional instruments, Guzheng. When my fingers swept over the strings, as if they were my minds, running free.
